Funfetti Cake

Behind The Cake ~ Confetti Cake recipe and step by step tutorial

Confetti cake, also known as Funfetti cake!

My intention for this cake was to provide an easy, fun to make and great looking cake, for anyone to make and for any occasion.

My kids loved the idea of the cake batter having little colorful “lines”. And to a certain extent I was excited too, I mean I had never had a funfetti cake before. What kind of childhood did I have?

I guess after all a confetti cake would not determine my life. But they look so pretty!

So I started with the base cake, a vanilla cake. Added the sprinkles which I got at the grocery store. Nothing fancy, just plain regular sprinkles.

Just be careful the ones you buy are not or do not contain dragees or are hard candy.

Imagine putting hard candy on a cake, next you will be visiting the dentist with a broken tooth. So don’t!

In the video, you will see where I started building the cake using a white buttercream and all of a sudden it turns blue.

Reality is I was to decorate the cake in plain white buttercream and that is why I crumb-coated with white BC. After a while, I thought it would be nice to add color to the BC and I picked the blue.

To make it more interesting I added different shades of blue which are the ones giving the watercolor effect to the cake. Looks pretty, right?

To make that effect I had to chill the cake so the BC would not be soft and just move where she wanted to. Plus it helps with the hardening of the last layer of BC.

Adding the sprinkles was not that easy since the cake was chilled. So I added some pipping gel to make thinks to stick. With a brush, added the gel around the bottom of the cake.

By the time I finish the cake I was so happy I added the watercolor effect. All together made me happy, it reminded me about the little moments in life that are so colorful that they cheer you up.

Those moments make your life so special. And you want to add more and more. I think the most beautiful moments in life are when you truly give to others and expect nothing in return.

The satisfaction is to see others smile or feel thankful for what you did. Oh, beautiful!
